ElectroLite FREE side chaining template
The ElectroLite drum rack contains percussive sounds that were sampled from Ableton Live 11 Suite’s collection of synthesizers. Using sampler and simpler inside the drum rack instead of the original synthesizers greatly cuts down on CPU usage. So using this template will give you the electro drum sounds from Ableton’s various synths while being ‘Lite’ on your CPU.
Side Chaining
Each drum pad that is listed as ‘Multi’ is a drum that is side chained against the rest of the drums in the rack:
- C1 - Kick [12 different selectable kicks]
- D#1 - Clap
- E1 - Snare [choice of long or short]
Any instruments or samples that are placed inside the white track group called ‘Duck SC’ will also be made quieter [or ducked] whenever the drums listed above are played.
Macro Knobs
The macro knobs on the ElectroLite Drum Rack control everything important. Here’s a list of each one of them and a description of what they do:
Kick Selector
- Rotate to switch between 12 different kick choices
Snare Lng/Shrt
- Choose between a long or short snare sound
Thresh
- This knob controls how much the volume is dropped [or ducked] when each side chained drum is played. -Inf db is the maximum amount and is the setting to use if you want to hear that specific pumping ‘side chained effect.’ This one knob controls the threshold for both the side chain compressor inside the drum rack as well as the one on the Duck SC track group.
Release
- This knob controls the length of time that signal is ducked every time a side chained drum is triggered. Choose a range between 20 and 250ms. Like the previous knob, ‘release’ controls the settings for the side chain compressor inside the drum rack as well as the one on the Duck SC track group.
Kick Length
- Use this knob to control the length of the kick sample [100 - 800ms]. This length applies to any and all of the kick choices available.
Kick Pitch
- Rotate this knob to raise or lower the pitch of the kick drum [-12st thru +12st]
Noiz Pitch
- Changes the pitch of the ‘Noiz Tube’ drum that sits on key C2. Adjust to keep this drum in tune with the rest of your mix.
Punch
- This knob is connected to the 'Transients' knob on the drum bus effect. Positive values make all drums louder and punchier while negative values do the opposite.
Filter Cutoff
- This knob is connected to a low pass filter that applies to the entire drum rack. Rotating to the left cuts the high frequencies while rotating to the right brings them back.
Mix Optimizing / Mastering Chain
The master track has a mastering effects chain included that is made up of stock Ableton effects. For best results, the master channel should be fed with a level of -6 db.
Kick, Clap and Snare are side chained against the rest of the drums in the rack as well as anything placed inside the white 'Duck SC' track group. Grab this for FREE now and get your tracks thumpin. NOTE: You must have Ableton Live Suite 11 to use this template.
